ܘܗܘܐ ܫܠܝܡܘܢ ܚܬܢܐ ܠܦܪܥܘܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܢܣܒ ܠܒܪܬܗ ܕܦܪܥܘܢ ܘܐܥܠܗ ܠܩܪܝܬܗ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܥܕܠܐ ܢܫܠܡ ܠܡܒܢܐ ܒܝܬܗ ܘܒܝܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܫܘܪܐ ܕܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܟܕ ܚܕܪܐ

Solomon made a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt. He took Pharaoh’s daughter and brought her into David’s city until he had finished building his own house, Yahweh’s house, and the wall around Jerusalem.

ܒܠܚܘܕ ܥܡܐ ܡܕܒܚܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܥܠ ܥ̈ܠܘܬܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܥܕܟܝܠ ܠܐ ܐܬܒܢܝ ܗܘܐ ܒܝܬܐ ܠܫܡܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܝܘܡ̈ܬܐ ܗܢܘܢ
hnwn lywmth' edm' dmry' lshmh byth' hw' 'thbny l' dedkyl mTl elwth' el hww mdbkhyn em' blkhwd
However, the people sacrificed in the high places, because there was not yet a house built for Yahweh’s name.

ܘܪܚܡ ܫܠܝܡܘܢ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܠܡܗܠܟܘ ܒܦܘܩ̈ܕܢܘܗܝ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܐܒܘܗܝ ܒܠܚܘܕ ܥܠ ܥ̈ܠܘܬܐ ܡܕܒܚ ܗܘܐ ܘܣܐܡ ܒܣ̈ܡܐ

Solomon loved Yahweh, walking in the statutes of David his father, except that he sacrificed and burned incense in the high places.

ܘܐܙܠ ܡܠܟܐ ܠܓܒܥܘܢ ܠܡܕܒܚܘ ܬܡܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܗܝ ܗܝ ܥܠܬܐ ܪܒܬܐ ܐܠܦ ܥ̈ܠܘܢ ܡܕܒܚ ܗܘܐ ܫܠܝܡܘܢ ܥܠ ܡܕܒܚܐ ܗܘ
hw mdbkh' el shlymwn hw' mdbkh elwn 'lp rbth' elth' hy dhy mTl thmn lmdbkhw lgbewn mlk' w'zl
The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place. Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.

ܕܒܓܒܥܘܢ. ܗܝܕܝܢ ܐܬܓܠܝ ܡܪܝܐ ܥܠ ܫܠܝܡܘܢ ܒܚܙܘܐ ܕܠܠܝܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܐܠܗܐ ܫܐܠ ܡܢܐ ܐܬܠ ܠܟ

In Gibeon, Yahweh appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask for what I should give you.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܫܠܝܡܘܢ ܐܢܬ ܥܒܕܬ ܥܡ ܥܒܕܟ ܕܘܝܕ ܐܒܝ ܛܝܒܘܬܐ ܪܒܬܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܗܠܟ ܩܕܡܝܟ ܒܩܘܫܬܐ ܘܒܗܝܡܢܘܬܐ ܘܒܬܪܝܨܘܬܐ ܕܠܒܐ ܗܠܟ ܩܕܡܝܟ ܘܢܛܪܬ ܠܗ ܗܕܐ ܛܝܒܘܬܐ ܪܒܬܐ ܘܝܗܒܬ ܠܗ ܒܪܐ ܕܢܬܒ ܥܠ ܟܘܪܣܝܗ ܐܝܟ ܕܝܘܡܢܐ

Solomon said, “You have shown to your servant David my father great loving kindness, because he walked before you in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you. You have kept for him this great loving kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is today.

ܘܗܫܐ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܐܢܬ ܐܡܠܟܬ ܠܥܒܕܟ ܚܠܦ ܕܘܝܕ ܐܒܝ ܘܐܢܐ ܛܠܝܐ ܐܢܐ ܙܥܘܪܐ ܘܠܐ ܝܕܥ ܐܢܐ ܠܡܦܩ ܘܠܡܥܠ
wlmel lmpq 'n' yde wl' zewr' 'n' Tly' w'n' 'by dwyd khlp lebdk 'mlkth 'nth 'lh' mry' whsh'
Now, Yahweh my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father. I am just a little child. I don’t know how to go out or come in.

ܒܓܘ ܥܡܟ ܕܓܒܝܬ ܥܡܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܕܠܐ ܡܬܡܢܐ ܘܠܐ ܡܬܚܫܒ ܡܢ ܣܘܓܐܗ

Your servant is among your people which you have chosen, a great people, that can’t be numbered or counted for multitude.

ܗܒ ܠܥܒܕܟ ܠܒܐ ܫܡܘܥܐ ܠܡܕܢ ܠܥܡܟ ܘܠܡܣܬܟܠܘ ܒܝܬ ܛܒܬܐ ܠܒܝܫܬܐ ܡܢܘ ܓܝܪ ܡܫܟܚ ܠܡܕܢܗ ܠܥܡܟ ܥܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܪܒܐ
rb' hn' em' lemk lmdnh mshkkh gyr mnw lbyshth' Tbth' byth wlmsthklw lemk lmdn shmwe' lb' lebdk hb
Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this great people of yours?”

ܘܫܦܪ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܟܕ ܫܐܠ ܫܠܝܡܘܢ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܗܢܐ

This request pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.

ܘܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܫܠܝܡܘܢ ܚܠܦ ܕܫܐܠܬ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܘܠܐ ܫܐܠܬ ܠܟ ܥܘܬܪܐ ܘܠܐ ܫܐܠܬ ܠܟ ܢܦܫ̈ܬܐ ܕܒ̈ܥܠܕܒܒܝܟ ܘܠܐ ܫܐܠܬ ܠܟ ܝܘܡ̈ܬܐ ܣ̈ܓܝܐܐ ܘܫܐܠܬ ܠܟ ܚܟܡܬܐ ܠܡܫܡܥ ܕܝܢܐ
dyn' lmshme khkmth' lk wsh'lth sgy'' ywmth' lk sh'lth wl' dbeldbbyk npshth' lk sh'lth wl' ewthr' lk sh'lth wl' hn' pthgm' dsh'lth khlp lshlymwn mry' w'mr
God said to him, “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself long life, nor have you asked for riches for yourself, nor have you asked for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice,

ܗܐ ܥܒܕܬ ܠܟ ܐܝܟ ܦܬܓܡܟ ܗܐ ܝܗܒܬ ܠܟ ܠܒܐ ܚܟܝܡܐ ܘܣܟܘܠܬܢܐ ܕܐܟܘܬܟ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܩܕܡܝܟ ܘܒܬܪܟ ܠܐ ܢܩܘܡ ܐܟܘܬܟ
'kwthk nqwm l' wbthrk qdmyk hw' l' d'kwthk wskwlthn' khkym' lb' lk yhbth h' pthgmk 'yk lk ebdth h'
behold, I have done according to your word. Behold, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has been no one like you before you, and after you none will arise like you.

ܘܐܦ ܡܕܡ ܕܠܐ ܫܐܠܬ ܝܗܒܬ ܠܟ ܐܦ ܥܘܬܪܐ ܐܦ ܐܝܩܪܐ ܕܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܐܟܘܬܟ ܐܢܫ ܒܡ̈ܠܟܐ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܝܘܡ̈ܝܟ

I have also given you that which you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there will not be any among the kings like you for all your days.

ܘܐܢ ܬܗܠܟ ܒܐܘܪ̈ܚܬܝ ܠܡܛܪ ܩܝ̈ܡܝ ܘܦܘܩ̈ܕܢܝ. ܐܝܟ ܕܗܠܟ ܕܘܝܕ ܐܒܘܟ ܐܣܓܐ ܝܘ̈ܡܝܟ
ywmyk 'sg' 'bwk dwyd dhlk 'yk wpwqdny qymy lmTr b'wrkhthy thhlk w'n
If you will walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.”

ܘܐܬܬܥܝܪ ܫܠܝܡܘܢ ܘܚܙܐ ܚܠܡܐ ܗܘ ܘܐܬܐ ܠܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܘܩܡ ܩܕܡ ܐܪܘܢܐ ܕܩܝܡܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܣܩ ܥ̈ܠܘܬܐ ܘܥܒܕ ܫ̈ܠܡܐ ܘܥܒܕ ܡܫܬܝܐ ܠܟܠܗܘܢ ܥܒ̈ܕܘܗܝ
ebdwhy lklhwn mshthy' webd shlm' webd elwth' w'sq dmry' dqymh 'rwn' qdm wqm l'wrshlm w'th' hw khlm' wkhz' shlymwn w'ththeyr
Solomon awoke; and behold, it was a dream. Then he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of Yahweh’s covenant, and offered up burnt offerings, offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants.

ܗܝܕܝܢ ܐܬ̈ܝ ܬܪ̈ܬܝܢ ܢܫܝ̈ܢ ܙܢܝ̈ܬܐ ܠܡܕܢ ܩܕܡ ܡܠܟܐ ܫܠܝܡܘܢ
shlymwn mlk' qdm lmdn znyth' nshyn thrthyn 'thy hydyn
Then two women who were prostitutes came to the king, and stood before him.

ܘܐܡܪܬ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܚܕܐ ܡܢܗܝܢ ܒܥܝܐ ܐܢܐ ܡܢܟ ܡܪܝ ܐܢܐ ܘܗܕܐ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܥܡܪ̈ܢ ܗ̈ܘܝܢ ܒܒܝܬܐ ܚܕ ܘܝܠܕܬ ܥܡܗ ܒܒܝܬܐ
bbyth' emh wyldth khd bbyth' hwyn emrn 'nthth' whd' 'n' mry mnk 'n' bey' mnhyn khd' 'nthth' w'mrth
The one woman said, “Oh, my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house. I delivered a child with her in the house.

ܘܡܢ ܒܬܪ ܬܠܬܐ ܝܘܡ̈ܝܢ ܟܕ ܝܠܕܬ ܝܠܕܬ ܐܦ ܗܕܐ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܘܚܢܢ ܚܢܢ ܐܟܚܕܐ ܒܒܝܬܐ ܘܠܝܬ ܐܢܫ ܢܘܟܪܝܐ ܥܡܢ ܐܠܐ ܐܢ ܬܪ̈ܬܝܢ ܚܢܢ ܒܒܝܬܐ
bbyth' khnn thrthyn 'n 'l' emn nwkry' 'nsh wlyth bbyth' 'kkhd' khnn wkhnn 'nthth' hd' 'p yldth yldth kd ywmyn thlth' bthr wmn
The third day after I delivered, this woman delivered also. We were together. There was no stranger with us in the house, just us two in the house.

ܘܡܝܬ ܒܪܗ ܕܗܕܐ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܒܠܠܝܐ ܕܕܡܟܬ ܥܠܘܗܝ

This woman’s child died in the night, because she lay on it.

ܘܩܡܬ ܒܦܠܓܗ ܕܠܠܝܐ ܘܢܣܒܬ ܒܪܝ ܡܢ ܠܘܬܝ ܘܐܡܬܟ ܕܡܟܐ ܗܘܬ ܘܐܪܡܝܬܗ ܒܥܘܒܗ ܘܠܒܪܗ ܡܝܬܐ ܐܪܡܝܬ ܒܥܘܒܝ
bewby 'rmyth myth' wlbrh bewbh w'rmythh hwth dmk' w'mthk lwthy mn bry wnsbth dlly' bplgh wqmth
She arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me while your servant slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.

ܘܩܡܬ ܒܨܦܪܐ ܕܐܝܢܩ ܒܪܝ ܘܚܙܝܐ ܐܢܐ ܡܝܬܐ ܗܘ ܘܐܬܒܩܝܬ ܒܗ ܒܨܦܪܐ ܘܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܗܘ ܒܪܝ ܕܝܠܕܬ
dyldth bry hw hw' wl' btspr' bh w'thbqyth hw myth' 'n' wkhzy' bry d'ynq btspr' wqmth
When I rose in the morning to nurse my child, behold, he was dead; but when I had looked at him in the morning, behold, it was not my son whom I bore.”

ܘܐܡܪܬ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܗܝ ܐܚܪܬܐ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܗܟܢܐ ܒܪܝ ܗܘ ܚܝܐ ܘܒܪܟܝ ܡܝܬܐ ܘܗܝ ܐܡܪܐ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܗܟܢܐ ܒܪܟܝ ܗܘ ܡܝܬܐ ܘܒܪܝ ܚܝܐ ܘܢܨ̈ܝܢ ܗ̈ܘܝ ܩܕܡ ܡܠܟܐ
mlk' qdm hwy wntsyn khy' wbry myth' hw brky hkn' hw' l' 'mr' why myth' wbrky khy' hw bry hkn' hw' l' 'khrth' hy 'nthth' w'mrth
The other woman said, “No! But the living one is my son, and the dead one is your son.” The first one said, “No! But the dead one is your son, and the living one is my son.” They argued like this before the king.

ܘܐܡܪ ܡܠܟܐ ܐܝܬܘ ܠܝ ܣܝܦܐ ܘܐܝܬܝܘ ܣܝܦܐ ܩܕܡ ܡܠܟܐ

The king said, “Get me a sword.” So they brought a sword before the king.

ܘܐܡܪ ܡܠܟܐ ܦܘܣܩܘܗܝ ܠܗܘ ܛܠܝܐ ܕܚܝ ܠܬܪ̈ܝܢ ܘܗܒܘ ܦܠܓܗ ܠܚܕܐ ܘܦܠܓܗ ܠܚܕܐ
lkhd' wplgh lkhd' plgh whbw lthryn dkhy Tly' lhw pwsqwhy mlk' w'mr
The king said, “Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.”

ܘܐܡܪܬ ܗܝ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܕܒܪܗ ܚܝ ܠܡܠܟܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܬܗܦܟܘ ܪ̈ܚܡܝܗ ܥܠ ܒܪܗ ܒܥܝܐ ܐܢܐ ܡܢܟ ܡܪܝ ܗܒܘܗܝ ܠܗ ܠܛܠܝܐ ܟܕ ܚܝ ܘܡܩܛܠ ܠܐ ܬܩܛܠܘܢܗ ܘܗܝ ܐܡܪܐ ܠܐ ܠܝ ܐܦ ܠܐ ܠܟܝ ܢܗܘܐ ܦܘܣܩܘܗܝ

Then the woman whose the living child was spoke to the king, for her heart yearned over her son, and she said, “Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and in no way kill him!” But the other said, “He shall be neither mine nor yours. Divide him.”

ܥܢܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܗܒܘܗܝ ܠܗ ܠܛܠܝܐ ܟܕ ܚܝ ܘܡܩܛܠ ܠܐ ܬܩܛܠܘܢܗ ܗܝ ܗܝ ܐܡܗ
'mh hy hy thqTlwnh l' wmqTl khy kd lTly' lh hbwhy w'mr mlk' en'
Then the king answered, “Give the first woman the living child, and definitely do not kill him. She is his mother.”

ܘܫܡܥܘ ܟܠܗ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܕܝܢܐ ܕܕܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܘܕܚܠܘ ܡܢ ܩܕܡ ܡܠܟܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܚܙܘ ܕܚܟܡܬܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܐܝܬ ܒܗ ܠܡܥܒܕ ܕܝܢܐ

All Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to do justice.
